Approaching 7 Billion

On Monday, my 4 year old came home from kindergarten and announced, “Mum, today is World Population Day.” Given I have spent the better part of this year delving into critical global issues – urbanization, vulnerable communities, the impacts of climate change to name a few – this seemed to be the sort of world calendar event I should know about.

A Year of Awakenings

When you celebrate a birthday or an anniversary, it normally doesn’t pass without a fair amount of emotion, and one year of Shared Purpose is no different! This was a huge year of awakenings – either slow dawnings or lightning-bolt revelations – for many of us in the business and extended CSR/sustainability communities. A Quick Prayer for the New Year

Here in Hong Kong, this year is ending in a whirlwind of activity that seems to stretch somehow across the holiday season, Christmas, Western New Year and into Chinese New Year… meaning we don’t seem to be slowing down, moving from the year that was into the year to come, and reflecting on everything as we should. It’s business as usual, with colleagues working across blurred economic, cultural, religious and political boundaries. I don’t think this is unique to APCO; it’s a reflection of the world in which we’re living. And through my work, I seem to be able to coexist in the modern global economy while engaging in a variety of the most pressing social and environmental challenges that face me and my kids.
